First drafts are never good. Nope. Don’t care what anyone thinks about their first draft. That stuff should never see the light of day. In fact, you shouldn’t listen to what anyone says. The people who read your first draft shouldn’t have even been reading it in the first place. Not if they say that it’s great writing. Sure, great moments exist, sparks for character moments and the recognition that something amazing may lay behind the horizon, but certainly nothing exceptional. Anyone who says anything else is (a) lying or (b) doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

Think about that.
